Groundbreaking ceremony

Today (18 February 2013), we reached a landmark milestone in the UTC project by holding a ceremony to mark the official start of the building work.

Principal Joanne Harper and Vice-Principal Wayne Edwards were joined at Crescent Road by students and their parents, industry partners and building contractor Keir.

The ground was broken by Joanne Harper in a digger and Wayne Edwards with a spade.

Building work at UTC Reading will be ready for its opening in September 2013.

Jo Harper was thrilled with the great turnout and said: “Thank you to everyone for being part of this exciting journey as we prepare for UTC Reading’s opening. It’s brilliant for some of our first students to be here and be part of the project from the beginning.”

Students James Monahan, Simon Ruddock and Sophie Wooldridge are all looking forward to starting at the UTC and studying for qualifications and gaining experience that will open up many different career paths.

If you’d like to find out more about UTC Reading, come along to the next taster session that will be held at industry partner Microsoft on 14 March 2013, from 5.30-7.30pm.

One of students James made this great video interviewing other students who are planning to start at the UTC in September.
