OFSTED reports
We were inspected by OFSTED in February 2023. You can read their report here; and their report from their more recent monitoring visit in October 2023 here.
The report was critical of the school, and we have been working tirelessly since. Read more about this work and our progress, in our update letters to parents and carers here:
- March 2023 after initial visit
- July 2023 end of year update
- October 2023 after monitoring visit
- November 2023 after monitoring report was published
We have welcomed a number of independent experts into the school since the inspection, to assess and support us in crucial areas including safeguarding and SEND support and staff training. We are thrilled that they report strong progress on all areas and we continue to focus on sustainable improvement to get UTC Reading recognised once again as a good and high performing school.
One of our biggest projects is Speak Up, Speak Out, a student-led campaign designed to ensure that all students feel safe and happy at school, and know what to do if they, or someone they know, isn’t. It combines many strands, including our PSHE curriculum, safeguarding, anti-bullying and respectful behaviours. It involves assemblies, tutor sessions, posters around school and even staff training, and flows through into our behaviour rewards and sanctions systems. You can read more about this project here. We have also been running a number of student workshops this term, which you can read more about here.
GCSE study skills masterclass for parents
To help in the run-up to GCSE exam season for our Year 11 students, we asked Maximise Your Potential, a company specialising in study skills, to run a webinar to help parents support their children in the run up to and through the exams.
We know that not everyone could attend so wanted to share the headlines, key resources and main tips from Jeremy’s session. We have run sessions with Jeremy many times in some of our schools and feedback from the students has always been very positive, so we hope you find this useful.
