Travel to UTC Reading

Train

The nearest train stations are Reading and Earley train stations. From Reading station, the UTC is approximately a 1.8 mile walk and from Earley it is just over one mile.

Bus

Bus routes from Reading town centre to Crescent Road include the number 17 (Reading Buses) and 190 (First Group). Many other buses stop at Cemetery Junction, which is a five minute walk from the UTC.

Green transport

We actively encourage students to use environmentally friendly modes of transport such as car sharing and cycling. If you choose to cycle, we have plenty of bike racks at the UTC.

You can also hire a bike through Ready Bike; the nearest docking station to the UTC is in Palmer Park.

Post 16 bursary

Sixth Form students who face financial barriers that prevent them from continuing in Post 16 education can apply for a bursary. Full details and an application form can be found here.

Support with travel costs

Transport to and from schools and colleges is a complex area. Responsibility lies with local councils, so you will need to contact your council directly to find out what support they provide.

We are continuing to talk to all local councils in the area about the UTC, but as this is a new type of institution there are no clear precedents and some are still developing their approach.

We recommend that you should contact your local authority as soon as possible if you are thinking of applying to join the UTC. This will be especially important if your child has special educational needs or if you currently receive help with transport and wish to transfer to the UTC.
