Students launch football team

Two Year 12 students have launched UTC Reading’s first football team.

Two Year 12 students have launched UTC Reading’s first football team.

Since joining the UTC in September to study in our Sixth Form, Sean and Jack have organised for football training to be added to the enrichment offer, held trials for students to join the team and found a kit sponsor. The team’s first game takes place on Friday (6 March) against Denefield School.

“We set up the football team because after working so hard throughout the day on our academic studies it’s great to have a release. Lots of us enjoying balancing our studies with sport – I think you need the balance to be happy.” said Sean.

Jack agrees and enjoyed setting up the team because he got to meet students from across the UTC: “Getting to know new students was one of the best parts of setting up the team. We’ve got a lot of new friends because of it.”

The most challenging part of the project was finding a kit sponsor: “We are really grateful to FileMaker for their support and sponsoring us, we’re really proud to have their logo on our kit. We will be sending them a shirt to display in their office.” Sean said.

Following their upcoming match, Sean and Jack are organising other friendlies before joining the local school league next year.

We wish the team the best of luck!
