Exciting October taster event!

As we opened our doors for the second year, our taster event was brimming with current students wanting to showcase their school and projects they are working on.

As we opened our doors for the second year, our taster event was brimming with current students wanting to showcase their school and projects they are working on.

All curriculum areas ran demos and activities for visitors to try. This included experiments in biology, physics and chemistry, testing reactions on the F1 race track and demos in the Raspberry Pi centre.

Many of our industry partners attended to speak about the types of projects they’ve been running with our students and career destinations in their specific industries. Students and staff were also on hand to talk about life at the UTC, including the GCSEs, A-levels and BTECs students study, the longer hours, enrichment and independent learning times

At the UTC, students study a mixture of academic and vocational qualifications, plus have the option to gain professional accreditations which many people don't gain until they are in the workplace. During our first year, our students were the first in the UK to become Microsoft Office Specialists in Office 2013, George and Ollie are some of the youngest people in the country to become Microsoft Technology Associates and Rebekah is the youngest person in the country to become an Autodesk Certified User in AutoCAD.

Principal Joanne gave a short talk, with a little help from Year 11 and Year 13 students. You can watch the videos here:

Applications are now being accepted for young people who would like to join Year 10 and Year 12 from September 2015. If you have any queries please email enquiries@utcreading.org.uk or call 0118 938 1020.

If you were unable to attend this taster event, the next one is taking place in December at Microsoft. Full details will be added to our events calendar.
