UTC Reading compete in the Royal Navy Junior Field Gun Challenge

On Saturday 7 July, a team from UTC Reading competed against students from across the country in the Royal Navy Junior Field Gun Challenge.

The competition involved working together to assemble a field gun (small canon), transporting it across the track at speed, firing and then disassembling.

The competition was designed to inspire the scientists, engineers and technicians of the future, helping to build essential skills for the world of work, including team work, self-reliance, resilience and communication.

Students stayed on board a decommissioned warship and took part in additional fun games and activities in the evenings.

The week was a huge challenge for the team, but extremely rewarding and very enjoyable.

The other competing UTCs included Aston University Engineering Academy, Derby Manufacturing UTC, Elutec Academy of Design and Engineering, UTC Harbourside, South Wiltshire UTC, Plymouth UTC and South Devon UTC.

Thank you to the Royal Navy and The Royal Marines Charity for giving our students the opportunity to take part in the competition #ThinkUTC
