Green Meets Grey Event

22 UTC Reading students joined students from Leighton Park and JMA at Green Park in Reading to take part in the Green meets Grey event.

Students worked in teams alongside major industry partners to solve problems related to IOT (internet of things) devices. The industry partner came to each table and sat with the students to present the idea, brainstorm potential solutions, decide on a final solution and then create a prototype and present it to the judges.

The first day was spent very much on the planning stage and getting to know the team. Students and partners were introduced to the concept of ‘design thinking’ and how to generate fantastic ideas productively.

Once the team had settled on a final solution they split into two; a business team and a technical team. The business team went away to develop the business concept, plan and presentation, while the technical team got to grips with the new technology.

Day two was about the production of a working model of the system and refining the presentation. Groups had to reconvene to make sure that what they had designed matched what the business team were presenting. By 3:30pm all teams had to present their final solution to the judges, who then deliberated and came up with the winners.

We’re pleased to say that UTC students made up places on each of the top 3 placed teams.
