Visit inspires girls into STEM careers
On Wednesday 25 January, two Peter Brett Associates (PBA) employees visited UTC Reading to speak to a group of our female students.
Charlotte Cullimore, Assistant Engineer, and Jenny Hughes, Assistant Environmental Planner, explained what’s involved in each of their jobs and the routes they took to get there. They then addressed some of the concerns that women may have when considering a career in STEM and helped students to see how they can get past these concerns. Speaking from experience, they provided our students with useful tips on rising to the top in a predominantly male dominated work environment.
Steph Mitchell, Director of Industry Relations at UTC Reading, commented: “This was the first of a series of talks we’re planning to help our female students to see some of the amazing opportunities available to them in terms of careers in STEM. We are very grateful to Charlotte and Jenny, who gave a fantastic talk and left our students feeling inspired.”
UTC Reading is a proud member of WISE, a campaign to promote women in science, technology and engineering. Read more about our WISE membership.
Our next Women in STEM meeting for UTC Reading girls is Wednesday 22 February, supported by an inspirational guest speaker from AWE.
