Year 12 Physics: Investigating the effect of initial speed on stopping distance (November 2016)

This Physics A-level class was tasked with investigating the effect of speed on stopping distance and trying to determine the relationship between the two variables.

Students had to use a wooden block (representing a car), interrupt card, data logging system, light gate and two metre rules, but could choose how to set up the experiment effectively so a range of techniques were used.

Following the experiment, students graphed the relationship between speed and stopping distance, identified the characteristic of that relationship and compared their results with published data to see how accurate their findings were.
