As part of Ada Lovelace Day, on Tuesday 10 October at UTC Reading we had an inaugural talk as part of our IET Women in STEM Talk series in collaboration with Kendrick School, Reading Girls’ School and Leighton Park School.
This talk series aims to showcase inspirational women in STEM and to highlight careers to girls that they might not have thought of before. The talk was given by Dr Caroline Cox, Earth Observation Algorithm Scientist from RAL Space. Dr Cox presented her work on satellite imagery, used to build temperature maps through intelligent algorithm design and development. She works mainly on cloud identification in satellite imagery and explained a little about how she got into this role and what her typical day looks like.
Students from UTC Reading, Kendrick School and Leighton Park School were inspired by the presentation and were very interested to hear about the career and work experience opportunities at RAL Space.
