Group Mentoring Programme

Group Mentoring Programme: 1 x one-hour session per half term in autumn and spring

Each student at UTC Reading is eligible for the Duke of York Technical Award. Those in Year 11 will work towards the silver award, and those in Year 13 will work towards the gold award.

To support students in achieving this exclusive award, only available to UTC students, UTC Reading provides a group-mentoring programme.

The programme enables students, in groups of 5, to meet a mentor from the industry of the student’s specialism, once per half term, in autumn and spring.

These sessions enable students to learn more about industry, and to focus on the short and medium term goals for the upcoming term. These goals include exam studies and preparation, finding and benefitting from work experience placements, and application of technical skills. They might also include volunteering and other activities.

UTC Reading fully supports every Year 11 and 13 student in achieving this award.

Once Year 13 students have passed all of their qualifications, they will be invited to St. James’ Palace to meet HRH prince Andrew, Duke of York, to collect their award.
