Employability Skills Training

As part of ensuring that students leave UTC Reading fully equipped for the world of work students take part in regular sessions to hone their employability skills.

These include workshops on how to write and develop a CV, ensuring that students are selling themselves correctly; interview skills; presentation skills; team building; problem solving and mock assessment days, all run by our industry partners.

Employability skills are further developed in ‘Interview Insights’ sessions, where mentors from various industries share their own experiences of interviews and interviewing new candidates, offering insights into what they look for in candidates. In addition to these we organise speed networking events, EngMentors (for engineering students) and TechMentors (for computer science students), where students meet a number of different industry mentors in small groups to ask for specific advice on their chosen career destination including tips on interviews, CVs and presentation.

It doesn’t stop there either - we also organise sessions on LinkedIn, on how to optimise your profile for the maximum effect and, as part of the Duke of York Award, industry partners offer group mentoring on careers to individual students.
