University of Reading hosts final taster event

Our academic partner University of Reading hosted our final taster event for this academic year.

Our academic partner University of Reading hosted our final taster event for this academic year.

Young people who are thinking about joining us in Year 10 or 12 were able to speak to current students, staff and industry partners about studying at the UTC and the types of projects students get to work on.

During the talk with Principal Joanne and the senior leadership team, students also volunteered to answers any questions that visitors had. You can view all student Q&As on our Youtube channel.

Visitors also got to have a go controlling the university’s resident robot Baxter and try out their suite of virtual technology including drum kits and being a dentist.

Our lead industry partners also attended, running activities and speaking to visitors about their organisation’s involvement in the UTC and career opportunities within their industry. Cisco created sparks as young people took part in an activity to see what a 30,000 volt static charge looks like.

We’re still accepting applications for Year 10 and Year 12 if you’re interested in joining the UTC this September. Year 10 students need to apply through their home authority and Year 12 students through our website. Full details on the application process can be found in the ‘how to apply’ section. Alternatively please email enquiries@utcreading.org.uk to book an appointment to visit the UTC and meet with a member of the senior leadership team to discuss your options. Appointments can be booked for the following dates: 4, 12, 18, 22 June (all 9.30-11.30am), 29 June (2-4pm) and 9 July (9.30-11.30am).
