Success for our mathletes

Numbers are adding up for maths students.

The results are in for our Year 11s and 10s who took part in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge, where our students competed nationally to demonstrate their mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Our students performed exceptionally well achieving 15 Bronze, 10 Silver and 9 Gold awards. This is an impressive achievement as only the top 50% of students entered achieve a Bronze award, the top 20% achieve Silver and the top 10% achieve Gold.

Special congratulations go to Gregorz Tomalski, who achieved the highest mark of our Year 11s and to Kaan Ozarikan, who not only achieved the highest mark in Year 10 but also the best in school award. The top performers are now eligible to take part in the Maths Olympiad and Pink Kangaroo challenges.

Regina Lee in Year 10 has become our second student to complete every task on our online learning platform Hegarty Maths. This is the result of 81.4 hour of work the majority outside of the classroom, completing 925 skills consisting of 8747 questions to be completed.

A massive congratulations to Regina. We look forward to seeing who will be next to complete Hegarty Maths.

A group of eight Year 10 students did well at the AMSP’s Maths Feast at the Downs School, where they competed in two teams of four against eight other schools, across four rounds full of maths problems and challenges.

Great team work and maths skills were shown by both our teams, with one group securing first place in round 3 and the other group securing second place in round 4. The students hard work and team skills were a credit to UTC Reading, with some budding leaders starting to shine through.
