On yer bikes for sustainability
The first six students undertook their training last week (March 9). Aided by instructor Karen Robertson of Avanti training, they made their way to Reading Bike Kitchen, a volunteer-run ‘we-help-you-fix-it’ bicycle workshop for an informative look around.
Maintenance was high on the agenda as a puncture developed, but the crew handled it well and are looking forward to their next session.
This initiative is all part of the new Sustainable Transport unit that Year 13 engineers are offered as an option. Students will complete a case study where they consider cycling as part of a route into college linking the many local cycle routes, reducing CO2 , improving fitness, reducing cost and congestion.
We are now looking forward to a future session with Reading Buses in the next few weeks.
