Driving engineering forward

Collaboration with motorsport industry links puts engineering students in pole position.

The Engineering Department is continuing to work with a grid-placed Formula 1 team and last week (July 5) we received a wheel and a roll hoop component, which students will use in class to explore engineering design and advanced materials.

The F1 team have kindly provided UTCR with race car components and CAD drawings for use in specific units of the BTEC level 3 engineering course.

Items provided to date include a wheel and wheel nut, part of the roll hoop, a hydraulic manifold and a rear suspension rocker.

We thank you for your continued support!

In addition, the engineering department is driving ahead to inspire our students by expanding its links into exciting areas of real-world engineering.

Dr Martin Thomas recently met the business development manager Richard Forster-Turner and PR manager Robin Jackson of the UK’s dragster racing centre, Santa Pod, to explore ways that our students can access in the world’s fastest motorsport.
