Year 10&12 induction and transition days
We’ve got a whole raft of transition and induction events coming up over the next few weeks for those joining the school or moving up to sixth form.
- Thursday June 24: Live student forum event for new Year 10 students
This is an event for those joining UTC Reading in September 2021 in Year 10. Hear from a panel of current Year 10s about their experiences joining the college in September 2020, get tips and advice direct from the student body and ask any questions that you like! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/live-student-forum-event-for-new-year-10-students-tickets-147979932963
- Tuesday June 29: A girl’s perspective of the unique UTC Reading learning environment
If you have concerns or questions about joining a college where the student population is skewed towards boys, then this event is for you. A panel of our existing female year 12 students will answer questions from students and parents. They will also talk about their own experiences across the spectrum of academic subjects and in extra-curricular activities such as the CCF (Combined Cadet Force). Dr Martin Thomas, Year 12 pastoral leader, will briefly share his own experiences of working with some amazing female engineers, computer scientists and architects during his 20-year career in industry. Our director of careers & destinations, Stephanie Mitchell, will offer some thoughts on girls’ progress through the college and on the exciting careers that are open to them. The world really is your oyster!
- July 6/7, Year 12 induction
This two-day event is for students only and is to introduce all new Year 12 students to the day-to-day college environment, our Year 12 pastoral team, the exciting world of our subject specialisms, the CCF and our links to industry. This event will be online as the lifting of restrictions has been delayed. Even online this is a great opportunity to get a real feel for college life and to meet new people who will end up being your classmates. Don’t miss it!
- July 8/9: New Year 10 induction
All new Key Stage 4 students are invited to our two induction days in July. Here students will experience activities that build resilience and grit, and have a taster of their specialism subjects and GCSE option subjects too.
The specialist subject areas are providing exclusive taster sessions. Students will virtually meet their pastoral leader and leadership team, who will actively play a role in their journey with us. Due to the delay in the Government's Covid road map, these days will be delivered remotely.
The two days will be themed around life at UTC Reading and the experience that students will receive in September.
The full plan, including MS Teams links to join will be sent out by Tuesday July 6 at the latest.
Day 1 will start at 8.30am and finish at 2.30pm.
Day 2 will start at 8.30am and finish at 3.45pm. As this event is now virtual there is no dress code. Despite the virtual nature of the induction days, we now have current Year 10 Alumni to remotely support with the induction process. Staff will be on hand remotely too to encourage and guide all prospective students so they have a productive, impactful day.
Please notify your current school that you will be absent from school on the above dates as you are taking part in the UTCR induction days.
The deadline for registration on these induction days is Sunday July 4 at 6pm.
