Brains put to the test in Biology Challenge

Year 10 and 12 UTCR students were tested to see whether they know their chlorophyll from their chromosomes in a national Biology Challenge ran by UK Biology Competitions (UKBC).

The Year 10 students sat two online 30-minute multiple choice papers under staff supervised exam conditions, while the Year 12s sat the intermediate Olympiad.

“The idea is that if you do well in the Olympiad you can get selected for the British team, but as this was the first year of running it, and with Covid disruptions, that is a future ambition,” explained biology teacher Carly Gale.

Around 26,828 students from 348 schools competed the Biology Challenge this year.

Congratulations to all who took part – we are so pleased as a school to have gained one silver, two bronze and three highly commended awards.
