Last month, Post-16 students spent time with industry partners gaining experience and feedback in mock interviews. The students had interviews with industry and higher education partners including Oxford Brookes University, University of Portsmouth, AWE, Virgin Media, SSE, The Virtual Forge, Kier and Costain.

The students were judged based on their responses to interview questions, as well as their interview mannerisms such as eye contact, body language and even handshakes. Feedback from the partners was unanimously positive. They were impressed by the students’ attitude and examples that they were able to give about projects they had worked on alongside the placements that their technical education has offered.

Niamh French, Clean Water Operations Manager at Thames Water, said: “It’s a credit to the school how well prepared the students were and I was very impressed by the range of experiences offered at UTC Reading, including the enrichment session.”

The mock interviews were part of the enrichment opportunities that UTC Reading are able to offer to ensure students are fully equipped for the specialisms that they are looking to venture into after UTC Reading.

Chloe McClean, Student Recruitment and Outreach at University of Portsmouth, added: “I was incredibly impressed by the maturity and integrity of the students at UTC Reading, who demonstrate an attitude of excellence towards entering the world of work or university.”

We would like to thank all of the industry partners and their staff that gave their time and experience to our students and hope that the students found the sessions valuable.
