New term, new project for students!

Within their companies, students have been challenged to plan and design the classroom of the future, including it physical and virtual security. 

Today (7 January) with industry partner Cisco we launched our next whole UTC project.
 
Within their companies, students have been challenged to plan and design the classroom of the future, including it physical and virtual security. 
 
The classroom of the future needs to showcase the latest in technology and benefit not only students at the UTC, but key stakeholders in the local community such as primary schools.
 
Students will compete in their companies and will decide amongst themselves who will be part of the different teams that focuses on the following areas:
  • Project management
  • Virtual security
  • Business case
  • Marketing
  • Interior design and installation
  • Physical security 
At the launch Cisco introduces the project, the specialists who will lead on the different competencies and mentors who will work with the students. Students will be judged on their work within these competencies as well as how they perform as a company.
 
  
 
Ultimately, the final ideas will be considered for the conversion of a classroom at the UTC to become Cisco’s classroom of the future.

About project based learning 
 
Project-based learning is a key part of life at the UTC. By working with an employer on an industry relevant project, students can build relevant skill sets, plus meet industry standards and expectations which will prepare them for life in the workplace. 
 
Most importantly, project-based learning is fully integrated into day-to-day lessons and learning experiences. Throughout the project teaching staff aligned their classes with the project’s objectives and tasks, each team was assigned a industry mentor and hosted off-site project days.
