Post-16 curriculum on show at first UTC Reading Open Event of 2020
UTC Reading welcomed over 200 prospective students and their families to its Open Event on Wednesday 22, focusing on the Post-16 offerings in September 2020.
Departments welcomed visitors with demonstrations of student projects and equipment in action. This included the engineering department, who displayed current workflows using VR software to view 3D models that students have made.
3D printers were in operation throughout the event, printing student designs which included scale versions of mechanical engines and geometric vases, amongst an array of other printed objects. New CNC machines were also on display, which are planned to be used to cut and fabricate material for student projects and future masterclasses at UTC Reading.
Current students also displayed the beginnings of an extra-curricular radio station for UTC Reading with more information to follow!
As well as touring the departments, visitors were also greeted with a welcome talk from principal, Jonathan Nicholls, as well as current students Thomas Canning and Nicola Harrison. University of Reading's outreach team were also in attendance providing information about local pathways and further education after UTC Reading.
