UTC Reading launch End of Unit CAD Exhibition
UTC Reading have launched Year 12 engineering students’ end-of-unit Computer-Aided Design (CAD) exhibition.
During the Autumn Term, Year 12 engineering CAD students designed 3D models of one of the experiments deployed over the moon by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 mission (2019 being the 50th anniversary of the first moon landings.)
24 models were produced in all, each a slightly different interpretation of the NASA PSEP experiment. These 3D designs are currently being manufactured using UTC Reading's new 3D printer to produce 24 small-scale models.
As a final step, a life-size model of each student's design has been created and has been housed in a 1,500 metre exhibition hall provided by one of our industry contacts. The exhibition has been presented in virtual reality, courtesy of MindRend Technologies' software.
The exhibition has been on show to staff and students alike. The future is in our classrooms.
