UTC Reading students gain a glimpse into the business world at recent careers fair
Written by Thomas Shelbourn, Year 12
On Tuesday 8 October, UTC Reading became the host to many companies and organisations interested in offering further education and business opportunities to the student body.
Businesses such as Cisco, Fujitsu and PBA were happy to discuss apprenticeship options with students, while organisations such as the University of Reading were on hand to inform students on the different subjects they may study, and the careers said subjects might lead to.
Also attending the Careers Fair were representatives of the armed forces, including the British Army and Royal Navy, who were eager to inform students of future ventures in the armed forces. This was especially appealing to students who are already involved in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at UTC Reading. The armed forces were interested in sharing the many careers available in military service, be it engineering based or of a different field altogether.
Another feature of the careers fair was the talks conducted by Fujitsu, ASK apprenticeships, PBA and the University of Surrey. These talks were conducted for small groups of students and offered students the platform to ask questions in relation to the presentations they chose to attend. After attending the Careers Fair, it is safe to say that every student left the fair a step closer to choosing their future career.
