Year 11 student helped to launch CCF at UTC Reading earlier this year

Year 11 student, Luca, helped UTC Reading to launch its Combined Cadet Force (CCF) earlier this year.

“I joined the air cadets when I was 15, after a friend recommended that I come along. I have continued to do this twice a week, outside of school.”

“I started at UTC Reading in Year 10, and was aware they were looking to launch the CCF in January 2019. I was able to help them to get this setup, as I was already a cadet outside and could bring some experience. From January, we started recruiting new student cadets and now it runs for one hour every Wednesday and Thursday each week, during enrichment time.”

“So far, we have taught drills, marching, navigation, weapons training and completed leadership activities.”

“I am currently learning how to teach the cadets myself and am teaching them basic first aid at the moment. I thought it would be fun to setup the cadets at UTC Reading; it’s something valuable to do during enrichment sessions.”

“I feel that I have really developed myself since becoming a cadet. You are pushed outside your comfort zone, and it has improved my confidence and teamwork skills.”

“I am Lance Corporal at the moment but I want to continue to move up the ranks. More than anything though, I want to help the other cadets achieve.”
