KS5 students enjoy hands-on industry training with leading employer partners

On Thursday 31 January, UTC Reading held its third UTC Pipeline Programme day for KS5 students. These all day sessions were led by our employer partners: Microsoft, Salesforce, Fujitsu, NTT Security, John Lewis, Airbyte, Network Rail, KBR, KBR Government, Peter Brett Associates (PBA), SSE, Equinix, Costain and AWE, both on and offsite.

UTC Reading launched its UTC Pipeline Programme at the start of this academic year, with four recruitment-focussed sessions scheduled to run during the year with a partner of the students’ choice. Each session is designed to develop the skills that young people need to succeed in the workplace.

The third day of the programme saw a wide range of activities taking place, including Network Rail talking to students about leadership skills, Airbyte’s android app project and Costain’s live demonstrations of the latest drone and 3D scanners used in industry.

One Year 12 student said: “We picked Salesforce as our Pipeline partner because we think they are a really interesting company and their idea would apply to many business situations. Using the Trailblazer system, we have learnt how to manage different scenarios and how to apply them using the technology. We have also started creating our own dashboards.”

The final UTC Pipeline Programme day of the academic year will be held on 29 March 2019.

Thank you to our employer partners for their informative sessions: Microsoft, Salesforce, Fujitsu, NTT Security, John Lewis, Airbyte, Network Rail, KBR, KBR Government, PBA, SSE, Equinix, Costain and AWE.
