Current student set for the future with academic study and enrichment programmes

Sixth Form student Glory joined UTC Reading in Year 12 following a recommendation from another college.

Now in Year 13, we caught up with Glory to find out how she was getting on…

“I knew I wanted to study biology and chemistry at Sixth Form. I was recommended UTC Reading as a specialist college and so I looked at their prospectus, and knew it was definitely the one.”

“I study biology, chemistry and maths A-level and outside of studies, I have started enrichment programmes in Microsoft Word and Maths, as I want to improve my skills even more. I also get involved in the Open Events here, speaking to prospective students.”

“The Sixth Form is better than I ever expected. I have a lot of free time to plan my studies and revise. I can meet with teachers and they support me with anything. We are now also allowed to study off campus when we need to, which works really well. You are given complete independence and treated like an adult, which I value. As for the facilities, there are so many break out areas and there is even an onsite gym you can use.”

“When looking at sixth form and college options, the most important thing to me was getting my grades. This was the right place to come. We even get extra classes just for revision on previous topics. For example on Friday’s for chemistry, we do past papers and revise year one. By the time we have finished, we round up and prepare for exams.”

“I also really value the discipline in professional standards. We handshake, we dress professionally, and we meet with industry partners who also help us with softer skills, such as interview techniques. It is so vital for our future.”

“My confidence has increased massively since joining here. I was quiet and timid before and now I get involved in everything and know that I can do it.”
