Students take part in national Royal Navy competition
UTC Reading’s Field Gun Crew will be competing against trainees from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, as well as those from the National Sea Cadets, local colleges and an invitational team from the Missouri Military Academy, in the Royal Navy Junior Leaders Field Gun Competition 2018.
JLFG is a modified version of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity Field Gun aimed at youths aged 16-24. The competition involves using team working skills to cooperate effectively together to: assemble a field gun (small canon), transporting it across a track at speed, firing and then disassembling.
Training will take place with the Royal Navy over the first week in July, 1-6, at HMS Collingwood, Fareham. Students will stay on board a decommissioned warship and partake in additional fun games and activities in the evenings, after their training. The week will be exhausting and challenging, but very rewarding and enjoyable for the students, helping them to build their courage and determination.
On the final day of the week a parade will take place where all teams will compete against each other in a time trial final. The competition will be attended by high ranking Navy officials and teams have the chance to be awarded trophies.
We wish all the best to our committed team of students!
