Year 13’s compete in the final of the Craftsman CUP Challenge
On Wednesday 23 May, Year 13 UTC Reading students headed to the Ministry of Defence, Lyneham for the final of the Craftsman CUP challenge.
Since September, teams from across UTC Reading, UTC Swindon, City of Oxford College and Reading College have been taking part in the inter-college REME challenge, working on projects faced by REME engineers on a daily basis.
The final showcased the teams’ design, innovation and craftsman abilities, with teams presenting their projects to a group of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ (REME) dignitaries.
After careful consideration, students from Reading College and City of Oxford College came away as the final winners but congratulations to all students who took part in this fantastic challenge and got to this stage.
This project has been tailored to link closely to the students’ learning programmes which are rooted in STEM subjects. During the challenge, the project teams have been able to acquire and develop a range of skills and competencies including creativity, innovation, problem solving and communication, and engineering a solution to a given REME problem.
Again – well done to all students involved in this project and to REME for running such a great challenge.
