UTC Reading runs Skills Building Week

Students recently spent a week taking part in a variety of workshops to build a range of useful skills in UTC Reading's "Skills Building Week".

The week began with research and training for professional qualifications. Students got started with training for the Duke of York iDEA programme, working their way towards bronze Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Awards (iDEA).

iDEA is a national project, endorsed by employers, for people to learn digital and enterprise skills and showcase their achievements. For every new skill and learning experience they master, learners will win a digital badge which carries a number of points. When participants win enough points, they will be awarded the Bronze, Silver or Gold Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award.

UTC Reading students continued their training for the iDEA on Tuesday of Skills Building Week, as well as taking part in sports activities. This was followed by a day of soft skills training, including a personal statement writing workshop, Barclays financial skills training workshop and a careers and futures workshop.

Finally, students completed a first aid training course with St. John's Ambulance. Students will be certified for three years, and the qualification is recognised on UCAS.

It was a highly valuable week and we look forward to seeing our students progressing with their professional qualifications and iDEA.
