Student success awards

As we reach the end of our first term since opening in September, we took the time to celebrate student success.

As we reach the end of our first term since opening in September, we took the time to celebrate student success.

Students were joined by some of our industry partners and Schools Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Sidwell for the awards ceremony.

Principal Joanne Harper said “This is the start of a great tradition at the UTC and we will be celebrating the hard work and achievements of our students every term.

“We’re here not only to share and celebrate success, but also to inspire you. During the awards ceremony you'll hear the reasons why your peers have won an award so you have something to work towards.”

Achievement and attainment awards were given to students across all GCSE and AS-level subjects.

Awards were also given to students who have achieved multiple Microsoft Office Specialist professional qualifications, those who had earned the most bytes (UTC currency) for their company and which company had won the business plan challenge set by associate partner CGI – well done Brunel!

The first UTC Reading trophy was awarded to the company that had the most bytes per student – congratulations Code!

Elizabeth Sidwell closed the awards: “All of you are pioneers and are part of history. Everyone is watching to see if UTCs work, and being here today shows that it is.

“You have great facilities, great teachers and brilliant opportunities ahead of you. All of this will stand you in good stead for the future.

“You have so much to celebrate and you've only just begun. Clearly UTC Reading is going to lead the way.”
