Taking part in Cisco work experience

Five of our students were fortunate to spend a week at Cisco taking part in their work experience programme.

Activities during the week included setting up networks, setting up online security, phone networking, video conferencing and finding out more about a career in IT.

This was a really great opportunity for students to spend time with one of our lead industry partners and speak to some of their employees who are on apprenticeships and graduate schemes to see how their career is progressing.

On his experience, Sixth Form student Isar said: “My work experience at Cisco was an excellent opportunity to learn and explore the real-work environment in a leading networking technology company.

“The people are amazing, all enthusiastic about facing new challenges and constantly learn about new technology. I loved this experience because it has given me confidence to focus my study towards networking.”

Rebecca also enjoyed her time at Cisco: “The week at Cisco was a great experience, learning in a corporate building so we could see what it would be like working for an IT company. We spent time with interns, apprentices and employees of Cisco to find out how they got to where are in their career.

“My favourite park of the week was the TelePresence with the other students in North Carolina, America. It started off with us telling each other about our schools and finding out about the similarities and differences in what we do and ended with us exchanging Instagrams. Overall it was a really beneficial and fun week and I’m looking forward to learning more about networking in the future.”

There are brilliant photos from every day of the experience on Cisco’s dedicated Facebook page.
