UTC Reading team win Best Engineered Car award

Before half term, a team of six Year 11 UTC Reading students took part in the regional finals for F1 in Schools.

The team, called “Serpents of Speed”, were required to prepare an F1 in Schools race car, which was designed in AutoDesk Inventor. The students used a CNC machine to create the main body and a 3D printer to produce the wheels, axels and front and rear wings.

In advance of the regional finals, the team put together a portfolio of the engineering process and design process, and were required to organise their own sponsorship and marketing. The students prepared a “pit display” and delivered a number of presentations to the judges.

Despite unfortunately not qualifying for the next round, the team won an award for “Best Engineered Car” in the Professional Class, which is the highest tier. Congratulations to Luke Pond, James Carter, Tom Clarke, Josh Mabbs, Ethan Nijar and Andras Joo on this fantastic achievement.
