Cyber Security Challenge Day

On 18 October, UTC Reading students were visited by Jason Stanton, Schools Programme Manager at Cyber Security Challenge UK, to run a Cyber Security Challenge Day.

Cyber Security Challenge UK is a series of national competitions, learning programmes and networking initiatives designed to identify, inspire and enable more people to become cyber security professionals.

During the challenge day, Jason ran a series of two-hour sessions on cyber security with students in Years 11, 12 and 13. Following an introduction, the students were given a series of codebreaking tasks which they progressed through at different rates depending on their level of experience.

Year 13 students have continued to learn about cyber security in their computing lessons since the challenge day, including a lesson on wiretapping using Ethernet cables they had previously made themselves.

Jason plans to run a national UTC competition on cyber security which UTC Reading look forward to taking part in.
