UTC Reading students prepare for future careers
UTC Reading students recently had a day of talks and activities to prepare them for their future careers.
Representatives from Multitech, Ultima, Thales and Peter Brett Associates (PBA) attended to run sessions throughout the day for students in Years 11, 12 and 13.
Campbell Elder from Multitech gave an inspiring talk to five groups of students about sensors and Internet of Things connections all over the world.
Ben Norton from Thales spoke about apprenticeships at Thales and the work they do, giving further insight into potential careers available to students when they leave education.
Oliver Davidson and Andrew Allen from PBA went into students’ engineering classes to help them with AutoCAD and Revit projects, providing some highly valuable industry insight into their school work.
For Ultima’s session, the team ran a “Tech Sales Masterclass.” Vicky Constantine gave an introduction to the company before Carlos Parrpira presented “a day in the life of an apprentice”. After being given a briefing on sales techniques and why this is important for every individual, students were then tasked with creating PowerPoint presentations in teams on the benefits of Office365. They presented at the end of the session and winners were chosen by Vicky.
The day was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about a wide range of careers and opportunities that will be available to them when they leave UTC Reading. We are extremely grateful to everyone who attended and helped to highlight how important the skills are that our students are gaining in preparation for their future.
