Students in Year 10 are competing today in a global competition to design a new running shoe in collaboration with Brooks Running, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Creative Hut.
They are tasked with using an AWS Generative AI app to design a shoe that is sustainable and effectively meets the needs of the fashion markets today. Student are working in teams to design, review, improve and then present their ideas to peers.
We are incredibly impressed with their innovation, creative ideas and ability to get to grips with new technologies as they learn skills ready for the future world of work.
Year 10 student Max said: “This is a really great inclusive activity that allows us to get to grips with new skills and try out our design ideas.”
Year 10 student Josh said: “It is good to be doing something really different to lessons. I am enjoying the challenge and the teambuilding, it is good to compete against other people too.”
Assistant Principal Brett Coley reflected:
“This is exactly the kind of activity we want our students doing to develop those skills and attributes ready for the world of work. Today we have seen confidence, resilience and a whole lot of innovation – this is what coming to UTC Reading is all about”.
We can’t wait to see the final designs this afternoon and choose the top team to move to the global stage for the next round!
