UTC Reading supports students through new One Stop Period Shop initiative

UTC Reading hosted a “One Stop Period Shop” today, providing students with free access to a range of period products and reinforcing the school’s commitment to student wellbeing, equality and inclusion.

The initiative has been introduced to help ensure that no student faces barriers to learning or attendance because they cannot access the products they need. Through the event, students were able to collect period products of their choice, free of charge, in a supportive and welcoming environment.

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting female students, UTC Reading is providing free and easy access to a wide range of period products throughout the school. This provision includes tampons, sanitary pads, menstrual cups and period underwear, allowing students to choose the products that best suit their individual needs and preferences.

Research has highlighted the impact that a lack of access to period products can have on attendance, confidence and participation in education. By removing financial barriers and providing products discreetly and without judgement, UTC Reading hopes to help students attend school with confidence and engage fully in school life.

The school is grateful to its partner organisations whose support helps make this initiative possible. Their contribution enables UTC Reading to continue offering essential products to students who need them and to promote open, positive conversations around menstrual health.

UTC Reading is proud to play its part in helping to tackle period poverty and promote menstrual equality. This initiative reflects the school’s wider commitment to student wellbeing, dignity and inclusion, and sends a clear message to students: periods should never be a barrier to education, participation or opportunity.
