Student volunteers as IET Student Ambassador
UTC Reading student Heena Hussain has volunteered to become the IET's Student Ambassador at UTC Reading.
Heena wanted to get involved with an organisation that can bring professional groups together and help members to progress and develop in their careers.
The IET is not only for professionals; for a small membership fee, each year students can attend presentations on cutting edge technology and business development, have access to a large network of business leaders and gain advice on the next steps in their careers as engineers and technologists.
As well as promoting all of these advantages to students at UTC Reading, Heena is keen to promote women in engineering. As Student Ambassador and in a leadership position she feels she has an important role in being the face of women in engineering at UTC Reading.
Heena plans to gather together a committee of students to assist her in empowering students to get the most out of the IET. The committee shall then consult the student body about events they would like the IET to organise for them and how the IET can help them in progressing their careers.
Heena recently met with Abhaya Sumanasena, Chairman of IET Berkshire, to discuss her plans. We are very impressed with her high level of commitment to her role as IET Student Ambassador and are looking forward to seeing her plans develop.
